THE QUINTETO ASTOR PIAZZOLLA by Mauricio Velez

THE QUINTETO ASTOR PIAZZOLLA (ARGENTINA) - Cancelled

THE ENSEMBLE AWARDED LATIN GRAMMY IS OPENING THE FESTIVAL

WORLD FAMOUS VIRTUOSO QUINTET FOUNDED BY THE MAESTRO´S WIFE

Following the passing of the renowned Argentine composer and bandoneon player Laura Escalada Piazzolla founded the Astror Piazzolla Foundation with the mission of preserving and promoting the maestro’s artistic legacy. The quintet was formed in 1998 with five outstanding virtuoso musicians following the revolutionary Piazzolla quintet from the 60s.
Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla was an Argentine tango composer, bandoneon player, and arranger. His works revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed nuevo tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music. A virtuoso bandoneonist, he regularly performed his own compositions with a variety of ensembles.
Pablo Mainetti (bandoneon), Bárbara Varassi Pega (piano), Serdar Geldymuradov (violin), Armando de la Vega (guitar) a Daniel Falasca (double bass) have been performing all around the world, followed by an increasing number of listeners and respected by experts. They were awarded by Latin Grammy and other awards. As Piazzolla they perform tango nuevo with passion and soul.
Unlike the whole world, Argentina had not accepted tango nuevo for a long time and Piazzolla faced a lot of prejudices. World-famous pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim reminds us that old tangos need new arranges not to sound old-fashioned, Piazzolla’s compositions don’t need new arranges at all. It was also because of Piazzola’s work that the tango was inscribed on the UNESCO intangible heritage list in 2009.
