BRUSHY ONE STRING (JAMAICA)

UNIQUE BLUESMAN FROM JAMAICA

TALENTED BLUESMAN SINGER-SONGWRITER, WITH A POWERFUL VOICE AND ONE-STRINGED GUITAR

This is a story of a man who didn’t learn to read until he was an adult performing the guitar with ONE string, reaching huge success as The King of One String. Jamaica is not only about reggae, it’s also about Andrew Chin.
Is the fate of music given and clear? Jamaican blues singer and songwriter proves that it is not. His music is a mixture of emotion coming from the human soul, personal experiences, and accepting the world and people with all their joys, sorrows, and passions. Andrew‘s story takes us on a journey through the obstacles that have defined his career, and the spirituality which carried him from humble means to world stages. He was inspired by his parents. His father was Jamaican soul singer Freddy McKay and his mother, Beverly Foster, Unfortunately, he was orphaned at a young age and unable to finish his education. He didn’t learn to read at all until he became an adult. Andrew tried to learn guitar, but “I didn’t really know how to play,” he says, “and I played so hard, all the strings broke. So the guitar went under the bed”  One day, he had a dream:— “a dream in which he was told to play the one-string guitar” — his friends responded with mockery — all but one, who “insisted it was fate, and that he had to make that dream come true.” So Andrew set out to do just that, playing on streetcorners and in the market, “in a big broad hat and sunglasses,” he says. The music came to him naturally.  That’s how Brushy One String was born.
