KATEŘINA GARCÍA & LIAM Ó MAONLAÍ

LIAM Ó MAONLAÍ & KATEŘINA GARCÍA (IRELAND, CZECH REPUBLIC)

TWO BEAUTIFUL VOICES AND EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL SONGS

TWO AMAZING SINGERS, BEAUTIFUL MELODIES AND A DIALOGUE BETWEEN IRELAND AND GALICIA

A world-famous Irish singer and multi-instrumentalist who performs with his band Hothouse Flowers, but he always finds the time to play with Kateřina. He has travelled the world, played with musicians from different cultures, and performed with Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová (on Folk Holidays as well), but it was just with Kateřina when he presented an intimate piece of music coming from his personal tragic experience. In 2017 when travelling to Santiago de Compostela with his friends on a boat, they had an accident. Due to strong waves, their boat capsized and a poet, sailor and fisherman Danny Sheehy died. This happened near the shore of Galicia, a singer Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich who was on a boat as well translated to Irish the first piece of cantiga de amigo of Galician troubadour Martin Codax from the 13 th century. It is called Ondas do mar de Vigo, and it’s a dialogue between a girl and sea waves. She asks the waves if she can see her beloved friend again. Danny Sheehy was Liam’s friend and the memories are strong.
