RACHELE ANDRIOLI

RACHELE ANDRIOLI (ITALY)

INNOVATOR OF SALENTO TRADITIONS

A SINGER FROM THE END OF THE WORLD EXPLORING WHAT IS HIDDEN BEYOND

We are familiar with the fascinating rhythms of music from the Italian region of Salento, we know that it makes you dance from the very first sound. It has always been based on passionate women singers. They are represented by Rachele Andriolli. She belongs to the waves of innovators o Salento traditions connecting them with different influences. Salento town of Santa Maria di Leuca is not the real end of the world, however, when arriving there for the first time seeing only water all around might have looked like the end for those who came there ages ago.

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Rachele Andrioli presents herself with singing, spacing in between traditional music and the role of the chansonnier, from music rooted in Salento to world music, to jazz. Leuca is her debut solo album recorded with the cooperation of her friends.

What has Rachele discovered out of the borders of the world of Salento? She found Qawwali Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, songs of Enzo Avitabile or Chilean singer Victor Jara and gypsy music of Ederlezi.
