NORA BROWN (USA)

OLD-TIME MUSIC FROM THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS THAT IS PERFORMED UNIQUE WAY

A GIRL WHO MASTERED ANCIENT BANJO PLAYING TECHNIQUES FROM KENTUCKY AND TENNESSEE.

Thirteen-years old girls normally do not play banjo old-time music from the Appalachians. They have usually different interests than singing old American songs and meeting old Americans. What is more: why should a young girl sing about a woman who murders her unfaithful husband, she has plenty of time to think about these topics. Of course, she can be called a miracle child, as a lot of people called Nora, but this is far from reality. She is not a kid sensation, she comes from an average family and her teachers and mentors found out that this girl was not a prodigy but she just loved ancient music and banjo. She wanted to learn more about that kind of music, so she studied in Kentucky to go deeper into songs and their history. That’s why this teenager from Brooklyn can bring on the stage emotions that are above her age and experience.
