MIREK AND HIS FRIENDS: MARIE PUTTNEROVÁ AND VLADIMÍR JAVORSKÝ
MIREK KEMEL AND THE ANGELIC ALBUM MORDYJÉ
Although the folk-rock singer-songwriter doesn’t perform at Folk Holidays festival, his tall figure in the park is hard to miss — he's a regular attendee. If you're lucky, he might even show you one of his fresh cartoons satirizing the world around us. While the same kind of sharp commentary can be found in his songs, he makes a clear distinction: “Miroslav is the cartoonist, and Mirek is the songwriter.”
Still, with all the turmoil constantly pouring in from home and abroad, it’s hard to keep creative sensitivity compartmentalized. That’s why his latest album, Mordyjé, also “reflects the current times — feelings of anxiety, fear, loss of certainty, and the resulting desire to escape from it all — from the world, and from oneself.”
Mirek Kemel is aging like fine wine. And beside him are friends tuned to the same frequency of sincere humanity — who, as it happens, are among the finest musicians in the country.
