“A lute saz can’t be the key to the bad door, it opens only the good ones to hear your words you can’t do without it. Only if the words and the sound of saz join together we become human“, as says the film Saz – The Key of Trust. French documentary filmmaker Stephan Talneau in his film follows the Czech-Polish musician way to the secret of the saz, or the lute bağlama. It begins in Berlin, where Petra lives, in the community of Turkish emigrants, where she heard  the saz for the first time, then it continues to Anatolia through the Caucasus to Iran. When she became amazed by the lute she found out that it was not only to learn how to play the instrument but also to study its history, style and regional differences and connections to Sufism, which emerged from Islam.

By a respectful approach, mastering the instrument, language, poetry of songs and ashik traditions Petra opened the hearts of native people on her way. She sang and played along and asked: “Play a song that I can take home with me.“
